CIMALP® is named after the summit of the Alps, with reference to their highest peak. The Mont Blanc.

The brand was created in 1964, the brainchild of a mountain-lover, willing to manufacture technical mountain gear, accessible to outdoor enthusiasts. The company’s base camp is located in the heart of the Drôme, between two lush green expanses: the Ardèche Mountains and the Vercors Natural Park.

The Marsanne family, first Raymond and now Lionel, are actively working to keep this exceptional legacy thriving.

CIMALP is an eco-friendly French brand that designs innovative, technical and sustainable clothing and accessories, dedicated to the demanding practice of Outdoor Sports. They are designed and manufactured with passion and respect for nature, with a focus on comfort and enhancing high performance. From hiking and mountaineering to trail running and skiing, CIMALP's clothing protects all adventurers, athletes and mountaineers.

Over 50 years of history.

CIMALP supports and supplies many explorers, helping them to withstand extreme weather conditions, such as Laurence de La Ferrière on her solo crossing of the South Pole. The first and only woman in the world to complete such an expedition!

All of our manufacturing was originally done in France. However, we have not escaped the crisis in the French textile industry therefore we have had to make a major strategic shift.

Today, the conception of the garments (fabrics conception, design, testing) takes place in France, but we now subcontract the manufacturing to partners based mainly in Asia and Europe.

We obsess over every little detail, every innovation. That’s why we have been developing our own in-house technologies for more than 50 years. Cimaflex, Cimadry, Cimashell, Ultrashell, Cyclone… Those patented technologies and fabrics all provide ultimate performance, unfailing protection and improved durability, which are our guiding principles from the outset. 

We are working daily on developing a variety of creative fabrics, which are lightweight, comfortable, waterproof, windproof, breathable, and easy to wear & care for. With great awareness of the environmental impact of materials, we are pioneering material transformation to come up with sustainable, low-impact alternatives, which help the environment, but do not compromise on quality. By limiting the impact of our manufacturing processes (materials selection, toxic waste suppression) as well as our products (our membranes are 100% PCF-Free), we are making every effort to engineer sustainable clothing whilst mixing pleasure and conscious consumption.

WE ARE TRANSPARENT

We have long-term relationships with our production factories. We are fully invested and sympathetic about working conditions, not just in France but in our partner countries too. In Asia, where working conditions can be harsh, we are pushing for change. We financed the repainting of the workshops with organic paint to reduce the presence of bisphenols as well as actively trying to ensure better working conditions (providing new equipment, organic catering, etc.)

We ban an entire list of chemical substances from our products, in compliance with the Reach Regulation but also well beyond. Before any product is launched, we always carry out random tests to ensure that we meet these standards.
